Our new Astronomy Playing Cards, designed by Amala Parry (Newcastle University), combine our love for Northumberland’s mesmerising night skies with the enjoyment of a cosy games night.
Our Astronomy cards offer a fun way to explore the galaxies from the comfort of our cosy countryside cottage. Whether you enjoy in-depth card games or a quick game of snap, our Astronomy cards serve all the purposes of a regular deck of cards, but with an incredible twist!
Inspired by the wonderful photography of Resident Astronomer Dr Adrian Jannetta (FRAS), our Astronomy playing cards display a range of galaxies and constellations. From the better-known Andromeda and Milky Way to the lesser-known Nebulas such as the Rossette and North American Nebula, which can all be seen in the Northumberland dark skies.
The Star Barn Astronomy deck has been delicately and thoughtfully designed, with each playing card representing a different part of the cosmos. They were submitted to the NIDSP Annual Report by the IDA (International Dark Sky Association.
Memorable cards in the deck include the intricate set of Aces, with the Ace of Hearts displaying ‘The Rosette Nebula’ in all its glory. Other cards include the Ace of Diamonds showing the unique ‘Horsehead Nebula’, and the Ace of Spades and Clubs displaying ‘Caroline’s Rose’ and ‘The Leo Triplet.’
Expand your Astronomy knowledge and exercise your mind with this fun deck of cards during your stay in our Star Barn. Explore the full range of cards, when you book your getaway with us in the heart of Northumberland’s dark sky park.
